What’s new in version 2.2.0

Version 2.2.0. of the Drinkaware App is now available.  You can find it at the App Store or the Google Play Store.

We’ve spent the last few months updating the app to not only make it look better but also to make it  significantly easier to use. We have:

  • Updated design – Clearer feedback on your drinking with a simplified, more modern interface
  • Improved navigation – making it easier than ever to track your drinks, set goals and access weak spots. All app features now available at a single touch of a button
  • Added more of your favourite drinks brands to our database making it easier than ever to track a drink with a simple swipe

I think some of my data is missing

If you’ve been using the app since before April 2016 and have lost data after creating an account for the first time please get in touch via digital@drinkaware.co.uk. Please include details of the name of device type model and operating system version you were using when the data loss occurred.

Why do I need to create a user account?

Having a user account means, simply by logging in, you can track your drinking on any device on which the Drinkaware app is installed. For example, if you get a new phone, once you have downloaded the app onto your new device, you will be able to view all the data you have entered on your old phone by logging into the app on your new phone. Similarly if you have a mobile phone and a tablet you can view the data you have entered on one device on the other, providing you are logged in to the app on both.

How do I create an account?

The first time you open the app the ‘Welcome’ screen will prompt you to create an account by clicking the ‘Sign up’ button. You will need to enter your name and email address and create a password to set up an account.

Did you register more than one account?

If you’ve registered more than one account for the app with different email addresses please login using the account you use the most and would like to continue using.

If you cannot remember your password please reset by:

On the ‘Welcome! Please login’ screen > click 'forgot password' > an email will be sent to the email you put in > check your inbox > open the link we email you > enter ‘reset password’ > you should see 'password has been updated' > enter that email and password to log in to the app.

What do you do with my data?

We will not pass your email address on to any 3rd parties – you won’t get any SPAM. Your data is secured following industry standards, which is the same technology that online banking and shopping websites and apps use; data security is important to us.

In order to make sure our app is effective, we have worked with research evaluation teams to look at user behaviour, but they never have access to the data directly – it’s always totally anonymised which means that individuals will not be identifiable from what the research team looks at.

We know that the tracking you do is highly personal, and there is comfort in anonymity so you can be totally honest with the app and yourself. Do check our Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy for more details.

I’m having a problem logging in

If you’ve set up an account and are having problems getting in to it, please get in touch with us via digital@drinkaware.co.uk.

It would be really useful if you could send a screengrab of where you’re getting stuck with an idea of your phone model and operating system version (which you can generally find in your phone settings, on a page called something like ‘About’).

Remember: this app login is not the same as your MyDrinkaware login – they are totally separate, and while we have plans to integrate them in the future, no data is currently passed between them.

Why can’t I log in using my MyDrinkaware login?

Please remember that the Drinkaware: Track and Calculate Units app login is different from the MyDrinkaware login on the Drinkaware website. The app and MyDrinkaware are completely separate, and while we have plans to integrate them in the future, currently no data is passed between them. Therefore you will not be able to see data entered via the app displayed online in MyDrinkaware and vice versa. This means if you wish to use both you will need a different login for each product.

Why does the app ask for access to my location?

In the app’s main navigation, at the bottom of the screen, you’ll see a ‘Weak Spot’ button. The Weak Spot feature lets you log locations where you think you are more likely to drink so the app can provide you support to help you stick to your goals when you find yourself nearby. For this feature to work the app requires access to your phone’s location.

The Weak Spot feature will not become active until you have logged at least one Weak Spot location. You can disable the Weak Spot feature by deleting any Weak Spots that you have previously entered. Alternatively, you can disable your phone’s location settings. Doing either will ensure that you do not receive Weak Spot notifications based on your location.
