Dr Paul Hughes
Chief Medical Adviser and Chair of Independent Advisory Panel to the Drinkaware Trust.
As a General Practitioner Paul brings extensive experience to the role, including 31 years’ service in the military and five years as Executive Medical Director at the national drug, alcohol, and mental health charity We Are With You.
During his time in the Royal Navy, Paul held notable appointments including Commander of Defence Primary Healthcare, Commanding Officer of the world-renowned Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Headley Court and was appointed as Honorary Physician to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2014.
On leaving the Navy in 2017, Paul joined We Are With You as the Executive Medical Director, where he led major strategic change programmes and developed governance systems to provide assurance on the quality of healthcare provision.
Paul is currently the National Medical Director for Operose Health the largest primary care provider of NHS General Practice services in the UK and serves as a Trustee at the Lloyds Patriotic Fund, the oldest military charity in the UK.
An Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners, he obtained an MBA in Health Services Management, with Distinction and was awarded the Defence Medical Services Medal in 2017.
