Stock up on alcohol-free options

One of the easiest ways to go drink-free is opt for alcohol-free alternatives. Stocking your cupboard and fridge with these is a simple way to avoid defaulting to alcoholic drinks. The great news is that these days you are not limited to orange squash! There’s never been a better time to enjoy alcohol-free drinks. Next time you’re at the shop, browse the wide array of alcohol-free beers, wines and spirits. You won’t be disappointed.

Get creative at your festive parties by mixing up some of our delicious non-alcoholic cocktail recipes (here are a few suggestions from us to get you started!)

The key to making an alcohol-free drink special is to get creative. Recreate a night out by using your best glasses, adding edible drink sparkles or garnishes to your alcohol-free drinks and serving with peanuts, pork scratchings or your best Christmas canapés.

Competition time

Nothing brings people together like a classic board game at Christmas. It’s the perfect opportunity to look away from your screen and dust off your trusty game of Monopoly or Scrabble with your household. Board games are having a moment this year, with lots of new inventive concepts to try, both online and in physical formats. If board games aren’t your thing, why not create a festive quiz for your friends and family to enjoy?

Crafternoon

Let your creativity shine through with a day of wholesome craftmaking. Embrace the Christmas spirit, whether on your own or with friends and family. Making Christmas cards, tree decorations and wreaths are all great ways to get into the festive mood.

For an extra festive twist, why not host a ‘crafternoon tea’? Serve up a selection of seasonal treats like turkey sandwiches, spiced scones, and festive cupcakes, and enjoy an afternoon of crafts with plenty of holiday cheer.

Soak up your natural surroundings

Enjoy the crisp winter air and embrace the season with a walk in nature. Bundle up and explore a local park, trail, or nature reserve. Bring along a flask of hot chocolate or your favourite tea to keep warm. For an extra twist, try a scavenger hunt for seasonal items like pinecones, holly, or Christmas decorations spotted along the way.

Winter movie marathon

Whether your favourite festive film is Die Hard or The Holiday, turn your living room into a cosy cinema for a night of festive flicks. Choose a theme and create a menu of non-alcoholic drinks, such as hot chocolate, or alcohol-free mulled wine. Add blankets, popcorn, and fairy lights to set the mood!

Plan a Comedy Night

They say laughter is good for the soul, but did you know that there is evidence to suggest it strengthens your immune system? With that in mind, sit back, relax and dedicate an evening to some comedy. You can head out to one of your local comedy nights or if you want to chuckle from the comfort of your home - you can dive into YouTube, a number of streaming services and podcasts for sketches to tickle your funny bones.

Get carolling

Singing has many benefits for the mind and body. Gather friends or family for a carol-singing session in your home, or head out to your local streets to spread holiday cheer.

If you're part of a choir, you could join local community carolling events, or even organise a sing-along at a care home, school, or charity. Not in a group? No problem! Create your own carol playlist and sing your heart out from home!
